Independence Fitz You began in 2020 when our founder, Abby Bell – a seasoned occupational therapist – envisioned a supportive environment that empowers adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) to achieve their full potential and enjoy vibrant, dynamic lives.
At Independence Fitz You, we provide a variety of person-centered services that enhance the quality of life for our clients by promoting independence, community engagement and social connections.

The mission of Independence Fitz You is encapsulated by the phrase “Independence Through Empowerment.” This mission underscores our commitment to supporting adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities in such a way that they are integrated fully into society. By providing comprehensive support and equal opportunities, Independence Fitz You aims to empower each individual we serve to lead a fulfilling and complete life, enhancing their quality of life and promoting independence, socialization and community engagement.
Abby is the owner and founder of Independence Fitz You and a dedicated occupational therapist residing in West Chester, PA. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Pittsburgh and her Master’s in Occupational Therapy from Ohio State University. She ventured into human services because she truly loves meeting new people and forming meaningful relationships. With a career spanning well over a decade, she has worked with clients of all ages and backgrounds, supporting them as they navigate a diverse spectrum of diagnoses. During this time, she has had the privilege of witnessing the transformative power of collaboration. She believes there’s something truly special about partnering with others, regardless of their backgrounds, to define and achieve greater independence – whatever that may mean for them.
Her journey has been a rewarding one, marked by growth, learning and – most importantly – the opportunity to positively influence the lives of others. Driven by a desire to make a more substantial impact, in 2020 she founded Independence Fitz You, an agency dedicated to the local IDD community. Independence Fitz You strives to contribute to thewell-being of its clients by providing opportunities for them to achieve their goals and enabling them to lead successful, vibrant and dynamic lives.
When she’s not “working,” you can find Abby tackling life’s adventures with her husband and two wonderful daughters. She has a love of hiking, reading, traveling and any and all things true crime. If you’re in West Chester or the surrounding areas and seeking support for yourself or a loved one, she would love to connect. Together, you can navigate challenges, set goals and celebrate achievements. Cheers!
